What is this video about?
I finally got my hands on the Tamron 150-500mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, and I wanted to put it to work right away. So I headed out to the lake on a misty fall morning—the kind of atmospheric conditions that really test a lens and make for compelling photography.
In this video, I bring you along as I explore what this new telephoto lens can do paired with my Sony A7 IV. The 150-500mm range is something I've been curious about for a while, especially for distant wildlife and compressed landscape work. The misty conditions that morning created this beautiful, moody backdrop with the fall colors reflecting off the water, so it felt like the perfect chance to see how the lens handles those kinds of scenes.
I also took the opportunity to compare my approach with my phone—specifically the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It's something I do often because I'm genuinely interested in how these tools differ, not just in image quality but in how they shape the way you think about composition and framing. There's something nice about having different tools and understanding what each one does best.
