Living in Seattle, you get pretty spoiled by the views. But there's one shot that feels almost mandatory if you're going to call this place home: Mount Rainier framed against Lake Washington. So I went out to get it.
This is the kind of landscape that reminds you why people move to the Pacific Northwest in the first place. When the weather cooperates and Rainier is out — which, honestly, doesn't happen as often as you'd think — there's something almost surreal about seeing that massive volcano sitting there on the horizon.
I shot this on the Sony A7IV, which handles these kinds of scenes beautifully. The sensor picks up incredible detail in both the mountain and the water, and the dynamic range gives me plenty of room to work with in post. For a shot like this, you want a camera that won't let you down when the light is good and the moment is fleeting.
If you're visiting Seattle or thinking about moving here, Lake Washington's east shore is one of the best spots to catch this view. Get there early, wait for the light to hit right, and be patient. Rainier doesn't always cooperate, but when it does, it's worth the wait.
