hello everyone i got a lot of questions asking if you should be buying the insta 360 one x2 or the dji pocket 2. we will be answering this question while going around the beautiful moth hamble ski resort let's roll the intro [Music] for those of you who need this channel i'm like ben mchalford and i'm photographer and filmmaker on the journey become better at this site i was always interested to test out an insta360 but never had the budget to buy it before so when instagram reached out and offered me to compare the insta360 1x2 to the dji pocket 2 i definitely accepted their offer they don't get to pay me they don't get to see the video so you're getting my full honest opinion inside of this video let's get started because i'm really excited to see how they both perform [Music] now let's talk about the different philosophy of both of these cameras the dji pocket 2 has a very traditional way of framing the shot where you frame the shot while taking the video on the other hand the insta360 one x2 feels a little bit like the future where you can reframe everything afterwards inside of the app this is great when you're doing action sports please don't really need to think about what you're filming and just point the camera somewhere and think afterwards of what framing you want to have but you can see they both have advantages and disadvantages and we're going to see that inside of this video now let's get more footage of a skiing [Music] i haven't seen the footage from both cameras so let me know what you think in the description down below i think the insta360 one x2 is probably better in this type of footage we have a lot of actions but i know the dj pocket 2 is probably better in terms of image quality [Music] another reason why i like using the n-style 360 one x-2 so much for action sports is that you can get completely different shots by putting it down at your skis putting it on the side or in your back and you can get drone like shots because the stick completely disappears you can also get these types of shots using a selfie stick with the dji pocket too but it won't work as well because you're still gonna see the stick inside of the shot which might be a little bit annoying now if you think i have a bias for the insta 360 let's talk about image quality because i think the dji pocket 2 has much better image quality its resolution can go up to 4k 60 frames per second and also supports 24 frames per second on the other hand the install 360 has a resolution of 5.7 k for the 360 degree view image and the problem with that is that once you return it afterwards you only end up with an image of 1440p or 1080p depending on how you reframe it it's not a huge problem but you definitely have less resolution when using the insta 360. another thing to note is that the insta 360 has two other modes one at 4k up to 50 frames per second in another mode at 3k up to 100 frames per second for slow motion but these both modes are going to have less resolution in the end once you reframe the image another huge advantage of the dji pocket 2 that you cannot have with the insta360 is that you can add filters on the lens this is super useful if you want to get more uh cinematic images and it's definitely something to consider if you want to get a camera to get scenaric videos or travel vlogs or things like that where you need to have a better quality of video in the end [Music] the next mode i want to test is actually one that i'm super excited to test on the insta 360 one x2 and it's high prolapses i already know that on the dji pocket too it's not the best hyperlapses because it doesn't have motion blur but this is something that insta360 actually has so i'm pretty excited to see if having motion blur inside of the video is really going to help getting better results for hyperlapses [Music] the last thing i want to test on both cameras while going down the slopes is the slow motion so they both have a slow-motion mode the dji pocket 2 has slow motion at 120 frames per second in 1080p it also has a small crop and then the insta 360 1x2 has slow motion at 100 frames per second but it's only 4k for the whole 400 degree 60 view so it's also a slightly lower resolution when losing slow motion but now let's test that out [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] civilization is a big selling point for both of these cameras so i'm pretty excited to see how they both perform side by side the dji pocket 2 uses this gimbal to compensate for the movement when you're moving around with it where the insta360 one x2 uses the digital stabilization called flow state where it actually does the civilization afterwards using software so i'm really excited to see if there's a big difference between the two and if there's one of them that has better civilization in the end [Music] so [Music] um [Music] do [Music] [Music] favorites [Music] now let's do a test of the time-lapse mode they're both very similar and offer the same functionality so you can both move the camera on the dji pocket too it's the gimbal that moves around on the insta360 it's actually reframing afterwards you can move a bit more afterwards if you want do now this is where i can't really say which one is the best i never really expected to use it in their 360 vlogging but after using it it's not texture anymore on the other hand it's pretty sure that the dji pocket 2 is a vlogging beast it's front facing camera front facing screen stabilization and wireless microphone it's really designed for people that want to be vlogging the very interesting idea with the insta360 is actually that i can show you what i'm seeing with the 360 degree camera and it can also fix my framing afterwards the built-in microphone is also pretty good so it's a little bit windy right now so i'm not sure how it's gonna sound but when you don't have uh win or things like that it actually sounds pretty decently good with that being said the reason i feel most of my talking shots using the dji pocket 2 inside of this video is because of the blurred background so there's actually autofocus and a shallower depth of field on the dji pocket too and this is great when vlogging because you get a better separation between your subject and the background which is something you want when you're vlogged but even after saying that i must say that i was pretty surprised when using the insta360 one x2 for vlogging now let's talk about the photo modes because they're both very similar and also very different at the same time they both offer full manual control and also the possibility to capture some raw pictures they also both offer panorama modes that are pretty similar the dji pocket 2 has an advantage on image quality because it can take 16 megapixels with pixel binding or a full 64 megapixel and there's lots of information inside of the raw files for photo editing afterwards the insta360 doesn't have as much image quality inside of the files but it's very interesting what you can create using the app and reframing afterwards for example you can use a tiny planet mode that creates a completely different view that nobody is used to seeing in normal times another very appreciated feature inside of the inside 360 is that the manual scaling is allowed to get a shutter up to 2 minutes or 120 seconds which is really great and i'm really excited to test this one out when taking pictures of the stars [Music] now let's talk about the apps because this is another place where there's a pretty big bit difference between both cameras for the dji pocket 2 you don't need to use the app at all if you don't want to because you can control all the swings on the camera and also review all the footage directly on the camera if you decide to use the app it's very simple very clean and easy to use for the insta360 one x2 you definitely won't have a choice to use the app because some footage cannot be reviewed directly on the camera and also where you need to use the app on the phone or your computer to reframe the shots afterwards the final step is to export the video and this is where i have the most problems because sometimes it just crashes or it's just a very painful and long process to do but that's because i have a phone that doesn't have the best processor in it and it's not officially supported by the camera but this is just one thing to keep in mind that if you don't have a very good phone it might be very slow to export your videos on your phone now let's talk about both physical devices they both have really great build quality but i'm going to give a little advantage to the insta360 one x2 for having waterproofing up to 10 meters which is pretty great i'm almost a little bit scared using the dji pocket 2 under some light rain or some snow that the rain is going to go inside of the camera and break it i actually already dropped it once in water and it came out perfectly fine so the build quality is still pretty good with this camera they do have touch screens that are pretty good and but the one on the j pocket too is much more responsive and works a lot better but considering that this one can go underwater it's not a big deal that doesn't work as well in the end they both have pretty good battery life but the insta360 one x2 definitely has more battery life and the big advantage of the slide 361 x2 is that you can actually remove the battery and switch it for another battery afterwards which is a really great feature when you're outside and you need to quickly get more battery life out of your device the dji pocket 2 can be charged while filming so that's another advantage if you want to be filming for longer in the end using your camera the last thing i want to touch is about autofocus because the insta360 one x2 doesn't have any autofocus at all so pretty much everything in your shot is always perfectly sharp the jpocket 2 has physical elements that moves to compensate for the autofocus and this is a problem for me during winter because it freezes and stops working so you don't have to focus sometimes in the middle of winter which is pretty annoying so the inside 361 x2 is definitely better if you plan on shooting a lot in colder weather now let's answer the big question which is which camera should you buy if you want to get the best image quality or the most cinematic images dji pocket 2 might be the best option if you want a camera i can get some really cool shot film some action sports or just get something that's very versatile the insta360 one x2 is a very good option i say it's oversimplified because both cameras are really great and can capture pretty much the same types of shot in most cases like vloggings or things like that so it's highly suggest that you think about what types of shots you're going to be taking and how you want your workflow to work because they have completely different workflow with the insta360 allowing you to reframe afterwards or to design pocket to offering better image quality that doesn't need to be processed afterwards so you really need to think about all of these things when making your choice between both cameras for me i'm going to be using both cameras i'm still probably going to be vlogging more using the dji pocket 2 but i'm definitely using this camera a lot more in my next videos especially when i go outside and film some action sports i'm definitely going to be making more videos on the giant pocket 2 and the insta360 one x2 so please let me know in the comments down below if I put both the DJI Pocket 2 and Insta360 One X2 through their paces at Mount Tremblant to answer the question I've been getting asked over and over: which one should you buy?
The core difference between these cameras comes down to philosophy. The Pocket 2 follows a traditional framing approach—you compose your shot in real-time. The Insta360 One X2 feels more future-forward: it captures everything in 360 degrees, and you reframe it all later in the app. For action sports especially, this is liberating. You're not overthinking the shot; you just point and capture, then decide what you want afterwards. The Insta360's invisible selfie stick is genuinely impressive, and you can get drone-like shots simply by positioning the camera at your skis or pack—impossible with the Pocket 2 without seeing the stick in frame.
But image quality tells a different story. The Pocket 2 shoots up to 4K at 60fps with crisp detail throughout. The Insta360 captures at 5.7K for the full 360 view, but once you reframe it, you're working with 1440p or 1080p depending on how much you zoom. The Pocket 2 also supports lens filters, which makes a tangible difference if you're chasing cinematic video.
Both cameras handle hyperlapses, slow motion, and timelapses well, though the Insta360's motion blur in hyperlapses gives it an edge there. Stabilization is strong on both—the Pocket 2 relies on its gimbal, while the Insta360 uses software-based flow state. For vlogging, the Pocket 2 is the specialist with its forward-facing screen, wireless mic, and sharp autofocus that gives you shallow depth of field. I still reach for it more often than not for talking-head clips. That said, I was genuinely surprised by how capable the Insta360 is as a vlogging tool, especially for showing viewers the full context of what you're seeing.
The Insta360 One X2 pulls ahead on build quality and battery life—it's waterproof to 10 meters and lets you swap batteries on the fly. The Pocket 2 can charge while filming, which is its own advantage. The Insta360's lack of autofocus keeps everything sharp, which I actually appreciated during cold weather when the Pocket 2's focus mechanism sometimes froze.
My honest take: pick based on your workflow and the shots you actually want to take. If image quality and cinematic output matter most, go Pocket 2. If you want flexibility, reframing power, and a camera that excels at action sports without overthinking composition, the Insta360 One X2 is the call. I'm using both going forward, and I genuinely think that's the smartest move.
