US 🇺🇸 West Coast Road trip with my friend - before the 2020 craziness! 🎥 DJI Osmo Pocket
I went on a road trip through the USA West Coast with my friend Nicolas in May 2019. We left Vancouver 🇨🇦 and went down to San Fransisco 🇺🇸 and back to the start, all in 8 days. I filmed the video with my DJI Osmo Pocket using only AUTO settings (because we were limited by the time we had) and I tried to make it look as cinematic as possible while editing it. For those who don't know what the DJI Osmo Pocket is, I have a review linked below. We enjoyed multiple incredible location like the Golden Gate bridge, Napa Valley, San Fransisco, Big Sur, the Oregon Coast, Portland, Seattle and much more! For the tech fanatics, we stopped at each big tech company campus.

What is this video about?
Back in May 2019, my friend Nicolas and I set out on an ambitious road trip down the US West Coast. Starting in Vancouver, we made our way through some of the most stunning landscapes on the continent—Golden Gate Bridge, Big Sur, the Oregon Coast, Napa Valley, and everything in between—before heading back home. Eight days, one incredible journey.
I decided to challenge myself on this trip: film everything with my DJI Osmo Pocket and use only the auto settings. Why the limitation? Time. When you're moving fast and covering that much ground, manual adjustments aren't always practical. But I wasn't interested in settling for a basic travel video. Instead, I focused on editing and composition to make it as cinematic as possible, even with those constraints.
The route took us through some genuinely special places. We explored San Francisco's iconic neighborhoods, drove the dramatic coastline of Big Sur, visited the wine country of Napa, and checked out some of the big tech company campuses along the way—because I'm always curious about where the technology we use every day actually comes from. Portland and Seattle rounded out the northern portion of the loop before we headed back to Vancouver.
This was my first real test of the Osmo Pocket as a travel camera, and it taught me a lot about what's possible with a compact gimbal camera when you're willing to think creatively about the footage you're capturing. If you want to dive deeper into the trip itself, I put together a full vlog as well—it covers way more ground than this edited highlight reel.
It's strange to look back at this now, filmed just before everything changed in 2020. Sometimes the best trips are the ones you take without overthinking it.
